Watch Band Identification

Tips on determining whether a watch band is gold plated or has gold filled caps:
Mercury Refining, LLC purchases gold filled watch bands, gold plated watch bands, and watch bands with gold filled caps.  These different types of watch bands can share similar appearances and characteristics, and not everyone can easily determine which type of watch band they are dealing with.

Here we can see two watch bands that look very similar on the exterior.  The watch band on the left has gold filled caps and the watch band on the right is gold plated.  While they are both gold in appearance with some aesthetic elements, they are in fact two different types of watch band with different value.  It would be very difficult to determine which type of watch band each of these are just by looking at the exterior.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Here are the same two watch bands, but they’ve been flipped over to show the interior of the band.  While there are some unique features to each watch band that can be seen, like that they are of a similar brand and the difference in color and appearance, there are no apparent markings or other features that can help determine which type of watch band each of these are.

By taking a closer look, the difference in color and appearance of the small clasps becomes more apparent.   This feature helps us determine that the watch band on the left has gold filled caps and the watch band on the right is gold plated.
